Celebrating Tom Skilling’s 40th Anniversary on WGN

Since Aug. 13, 1978, Tom Skilling has been predicting the weather accurately (and enthusiastically!) on WGN Channel 9.

But over the decades, Skilling has not just read the forecast. He’s taken viewers along with him on meteorological adventures: getting chased by tornadoes, explaining weather conditions from locations near and far like the top of the Sears Tower and the top of Alaskan mountains, and traveling downstate to witness last year’s solar eclipse. (He says his emotional reaction – as endearing as it is – still embarrasses him!)

WGN marked Skilling’s 40-year anniversary with a tribune Monday on its News at Nine show. (Check it out here.)

Skilling joins Chicago Tonight for a conversation about his career.
