The ground is still reverberating at City Hall—and beyond—following Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s unexpected decision to not run for a third term.
With nine months to go in office, Emanuel says he has an extensive to-do list that he’d like to wrap up before May 2019. But are members of City Council on the same page?
“We obviously still have work to do,” said Ald. Roderick Sawyer, 6th Ward, who is chairman of the City Council’s Black Caucus. “We still have a budget to pass, so elections aside, there’s still police reform to do, we have community oversight that’s pending, schools that need improving— the city still has to run.”
Ald. Gilbert Villegas of the Northwest Side’s 36th Ward said he’d like the O’Hare 21 project to get started.
“That’s a project that could potentially generate 10,000 jobs every year for next six years,” said Villegas, who is also chairman of City Council’s Latino Caucus.
