Bust out the lederhosen and dirndl for Oktoberfest Chicago. Held on the grounds of St. Alphonsus Church, parishioners serve up brats and beers. Enjoy music of all genres from Bavarian beats of the Polkaholics and Ed Wagner’s Lustige Blaskapelle to tribute acts including 16 Candles and Trippin Billies. 2. Marvel
Tumblers, jugglers, clowns and aerial acrobats perform under the big top at Midnight Circus in the Parks. The two-hour show features acts from across the globe, including the Jenkins Family, featuring Rosie Rae, the high-flying rescued pit bull who performs K-9 acrobatics and comedy.

3. Crush
Get ready for high-octane entertainment as drivers put their pedals to the metal, racing in obstacle courses, popping wheelies and hurtling through the air at the Monster Jam Triple Threat Series. ATVs and speedsters compete in addition to the massive 10.5-feet tall, 12.5-feet wide, 6-ton Monster Jam trucks.

4. Browse
Local and regional artists showcase their work at the Edgewater Arts Festival. More than two dozen musical acts provide the soundtrack on a pair of stages. Hands-on arts activities, face painting and puppet shows keep the kids entertained.

5. Woof
Spend the day with Fido at Barkapalooza 2019, where your furry friend can get doggie pedicures, tarot and card readings, and pet caricatures. Stunt dog performances, live music, face painting and raffles are also on tap. Proceeds benefit the West Suburban Humane Society.

6. Hark
Music serenades the South Side as the Hyde Park Jazz Festival returns with performances by dozens of local and international artists, including the Occidental Brothers Dance Band International and Irvin Pierce Quartet (Saturday), and Pharez Whitted Band and Greg Ward’s Rogue Parade (Sunday). Food vendors, merchants, artisans and nonprofits set up shop along the Midway Plaisance between the two outdoor stages.

7. Venture
Historic Berwyn’s Bungalow Tour showcases historical sites and homes in the neighborhood, including a “bungalow castle” and the Bugles Museum. See how homes have been preserved and adapted for modern living. Proceeds benefit the Berwyn Historical Society.

8. Frolic
A pumpkin patch, live music and horse-drawn carriage rides are among the festivities at Homewood Fall Fest. Once you’ve picked out your gourd, make a jack-o’-lantern and enter it into the pumpkin carving contest. Held in conjunction with the fest is the annual chili cook-off, where you can sample entries and vote for your favorite ($5 donation requested). Live music and a screening of the Disney classic “Aladdin” are also on tap.

9. Uncover
In honor of its 100th anniversary, the Oriental Institute Museum is hosting a public celebration featuring gallery talks by scholars and archeologists, music performances and an artifact scavenger hunt for children. Never-before seen artifacts from the museum’s collection will be on display, as well as new works from artists Ann Hamilton and Michael Rakowitz.

10. Devour
The World Dumpling Fest serves up international varieties of the doughy dish from 20 different ethnic restaurants. Offerings include Chinese dumplings, Puerto Rican pastelillos, pork lumpia, spätzle and dumpling soup. Get a three-dumpling taste for $12; or opt for a six-dumpling taste for $20.
