Though they can’t promise any exhibits will spring to life, a number of Chicago museums are staying open after-hours Friday as part of the city’s reopening celebration.

“(I’m) looking forward to seeing our beloved cultural institutions fully and safely come back to life in the coming days, weeks and months,” Mayor Lori Lightfoot said in a statement.

Many institutions still require advanced, time-ticketed entry, and policies on face coverings vary. Be sure to check before you go.

Museums taking part in Friday’s celebration are:

Field Museum, 1400 S. Lake Shore Drive, open until 9 p.m., last entry at 8 p.m. As of Friday, the Field will return to a seven-day operation. Check out the new exhibit “Becoming Jane: The Evolution of Dr. Jane Goodall.

Shedd Aquarium, 1200 S. Lake Shore Drive, open until 9 p.m. The evening will include pop-up animal encounters and live music on outdoor terraces. Additional evening hours will be offered on Wednesdays, June 16 through July. 

DuSable Museum, 740 E. 56th Place, open until 10 p.m. Enjoy entertainment on the plaza. The DuSable will officially reopen June 19, coinciding with Juneteenth and the museum’s 60th anniversary.

Museum of Science and Industry, 5700 S. Lake Shore Drive, open until 10 p.m. Don’t miss the blockbuster exhibit “Marvel: Universe of Heroes.”

National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts & Culture, 3015 W. Division St., open until 10 p.m.
