Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot may not only be losing one of her hand-picked committee chairs in City Council, but may also face Ald. Tom Tunney in her reelection bid. Meanwhile, Gov. J.B. Pritzker deflects the question on endorsing her. And, the Republican nominee for governor, Darren Bailey, compares abortion to the Holocaust, setting off a firestorm of criticism. Pritzker, Bailey’s Jewish opponent, immediately turned the video into a campaign ad.  

In the courts this week, the accused Highland Park shooter pleaded not guilty to 117 charges for the July 4 massacre as more details of his racist background emerge. Pension payments for ex-Speaker of the Illinois House Michael Madigan balloon by $63,000 in one year as a judge grants an extension in his corruption trial due to the mountains of evidence submitted by the prosecution. As R. Kelly attorneys prepare for his Chicago case, they file a motion accusing a lead prosecutor of concealing his identity when he reached out to the author of a book on Kelly’s sexual misconduct. And, prosecutors speak out against Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx as they leave the office.

And in sports, after a long goodbye, Willson Contreras and Ian Happ are not traded by the Chicago Cubs. So, what are the All-Stars players’ future with the club?  Meanwhile, hopes are high in Bears training camp for Justin Fields’ sophomore season.
