The city has launched a contest to name six of its snowplows — one for each snow district — and the competition promises to be fierce, if the results in neighboring states are any indication.

Think Betty Whiteout, the Big Leplowski, Snowbi-Wan Kenobi and Plow Chicka Plow Wow.

Submissions are open online through Jan. 6, or when entries hit 20,000, whichever comes first. The only rules: Submissions are limited to one per person and names max out at 50 characters.

Staff at the Department of Streets and Sanitation will choose 50 finalists, with the public voting on the winners Jan. 15-31.
