5 People Killed in Shootings Over Holiday Weekend in Chicago: Police

Five people, including a 21-year-old man and an 18-year-old man, were killed in shooting incidents over the holiday weekend across Chicago.

According to Chicago Police Department data, 19 people were shot between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Monday.

That included an 18-year-old man killed during an altercation Friday in the 4600 block of North Lawndale Avenue. Police said the victim and an unknown offender got into an argument in the backyard of a residence in that area at around 8:15 p.m. when the offender fired a shot, striking the victim in his back and abdomen. He was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A 40-year-old man was fatally shot Saturday as he was driving in the 2500 block of North Rutherford Avenue. Someone opened fire on the victim just before 1 a.m., striking him in the head and causing him to lose control of his vehicle, which crashed into a light pole. He was pronounced dead at Loyola Hospital.

Officers responding to a well-being check Sunday at a residence in the 7200 block of South Francisco Avenue found a man dead inside. Police located the man just before 6 p.m. He had been shot in the head and was pronounced dead on scene.

A 21-year-old man was killed just before 10:30 p.m. Sunday in the 10400 block of South Prospect Avenue. He was driving when he was shot in the back by an unknown offender and crashed into another vehicle. He was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, but later died.

A 29-year-old woman was found shot inside a vehicle in suburban Maywood at around 11:30 p.m. Sunday. During the course of an investigation, police discovered the woman had actually been shot in Chicago in an incident in the 800 block of South Kolmar Avenue. She was transported to Loyola Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
