Nearly a dozen people were shot, one fatally, across Chicago over the weekend.
According to Chicago Police Department data, 11 people were shot in 10 separate shooting incidents between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Sunday. That included a 29-year-old man killed in a West Englewood home Friday night.
Police said the man was attending a gathering at a residence in the 5600 block of South Throop Street at around 9 p.m. when an unknown man inside produced a handgun and fired once, striking the victim in the head. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, but died a short time later.
A 14-year-old boy was shot minutes later as he was leaving a building in the 900 block of South Independence Boulevard. Officers saw him exiting a common area of a building in that area at around 9:30 p.m. Friday when he told them he’d been shot. The boy sustained two gunshot wounds to his wrist.
A 15-year-old boy was also shot early Saturday morning in the 400 block of South Western Avenue. He was riding in a vehicle in that area at around 4 a.m. when a black Kia pulled next to the victim’s vehicle and someone fired multiple shots. The boy was struck in the shoulder and hospitalized in good condition.
