A 19-year-old man and 22-year-old woman were among five people killed by gunfire over the weekend across Chicago.

According to Chicago Police Department figures, 27 total people were shot in 21 separate shooting incidents between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Sunday.

The weekend’s first homicide occurred around 4 a.m. Saturday when a 22-year-old woman was fatally shot in the 9600 block of South Perry Avenue. Police said she was walking on a sidewalk in that area when someone fired shots, striking her in the back of the head. She was pronounced dead deceased on scene.

Just before 9 p.m. Saturday, a 28-year-old man was shot in the abdomen in the 10-100 block of West Cermak Road. Police said he was unable to provide any details of the incident and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he later died.

Less than an hour later, at around 9:45 p.m. Saturday, a 40-year-old man was shot multiple times in the 1600 block of North Parkside Avenue. He was rushed to the Loyola University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Two people were shot at around 2:15 a.m. Sunday in the 200 block of East Garfield Boulevard. A 26-year-old man suffered gunshot wounds to the body and died at a local hospital, while a 42-year-old woman was hospitalized in fair condition with a gunshot wound to her leg.

A 19-year-old man was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting in the 1500 block of South Homan Avenue. Police said he was walking down the street at around 3 p.m. Sunday when a vehicle pulled up and someone inside fired shots, striking the man multiple times. He was later pronounced dead.

Five people were also wounded in a shooting just before midnight Saturday night in the 1600 block of West Howard Street. According to police, a group waiting on a sidewalk in that area got into an altercation with the occupants of two vehicles that had pulled up, before people inside both of those vehicles opened fire.

Four of those victims were hospitalized with gunshot wounds in good condition, while a fifth victim who suffered a graze wound refused medical attention on scene.
