Young Performer Tryouts for T.I.P. Fest Scheduled for July 15, Aug. 25

Young performers and artists: Your shot at the stage could be right around the corner. The Chicago Park District is asking the city’s youth performers to try out for its 8th annual T.I.P. (Teens in the Park) Fest, where singers, rappers, dancers and poets ages 14 to 24 can showcase their talents.

Park District teen engagement manager Temeszja Drummond said the district wants to see all of Chicago’s teen artists show up and show out.

“I think after the pandemic, just rebranding and rebuilding everything, and everybody now may have new talents that they didn’t have,” Drummond said. “I’m eager to see what we’re offering, who’s coming out to show out — the next celebrity rapper, singer, artist, whoever. You have that opportunity to showcase for the entire city. It’s Chicago! They want to come here. They want to see you.”

Performers must sign up to audition on two dates: Saturday, July 15, at Columbus Park or Friday, Aug. 25, at McKinley Park. Ten acts will be chosen to perform at the festival, which will take place on Saturday, Sept. 30, at Union Park. Drummond said the festival offers something for artists of all disciplines.

“T.I.P. Fest is like a real Lollapalooza for teens,” Drummond said. “There are different activations there, things that they can interact and participate in while you are watching people perform on stage.”

The Park District also encourages teens to check out the full slate of summer programming on its website.
