More than 120 artists showcase their wares at the Glenwood Avenue Arts Fest, where you can watch demonstrations and purchase your favorite pieces. Live music, kids’ artmaking activities and two food courts round it out.

2. Devour

Get your fill of barbecue at Ribfest Chicago, where you’ll find more than 20 food vendors slinging 50,000 pounds of meat. Restaurants will compete for the titles of “Best Ribs” and “People’s Choice.” Expect live music on two stages and a children’s area with inflatables and games.

3. Leap

The 32nd annual Dance for Life brings together diverse dance companies from across the city to raise money for AIDS Foundation Chicago and The Dancers’ Fund, which helps dance industry professionals with health care and medical needs. You’ll see ballet, tap, hip-hop styles and more during 10 distinct performances.

4. Celebrate

Find a full day of family-friendly festivities in Englewood. The events kick off with the Englewood Back to School Parade followed by activities in Ogden Park that include youth-directed performances and open mic opportunities; hundreds of backpacks with school supplies will be given away. In the afternoon, the South Side Neighborhood Gospel Festival takes over with more than 10 performers and food and retail vendors on hand.

5. Salsa

Enjoy Latin music, culture and cuisine at Shedd Aquarium’s Ritmo del Mar. The adults-only evening features live performances, dance classes and sea life presentations in English and Spanish. The event had its inaugural run earlier this year; learn more in “Chicago Tonight: Latino Voices.”
