1. Color

Watch national and local chalk artists transform a stretch of Rogers Park at Chalk Howard Street. You’ll find 3D and 2D chalk masterpieces, plus live music and food and drink vendors. And for $25, you can get in on the artistic action by reserving your own 4’x4’ square.

2. Go green

Commemorate the Illinois Nature Preserves’ 60th anniversary with events across the state. On Saturday, you’ll find dozens of tours and hikes, plus a plant sale. Sunday brings an artist talk and gallery show featuring oil paintings of 23 distinct nature preserves. To learn more about the Illinois Nature Preserves’ history, click here.

3. Watch

Noir City: Chicago returns to the Music Box Theatre with 18 screenings celebrating Hollywood’s noir movement. This weekend’s screenings will be hosted by Eddie Muller, host of TCM’s “Noir Alley.” Starting Monday, screenings will be presented by Film Noir Foundation board member Alan K. Rode, author of “Michael Curtiz: A Life in Film.”

4. Vibe

One of the city’s newest festivals, Cultivate, promises three days of entertainment celebrating cannabis culture. You’ll find live music, food trucks, workshops and art installations.

5. Sample

Hellenic culture and cuisine are on display at Taste of Greektown. Now in its 33rd year, the festival showcases neighborhood restaurants while offering up live entertainment, Greek dancing and shopping opportunities. Artopolis will be handing out loukoumades; a gyro eating contest is slated for 5 p.m. Saturday.
