Chicago-Area Christmas Concert to Feature Music From Across Latin America

Chicago-Area Christmas Concert to Feature Music From Across Latin America

This holiday season, the Newberry Consort is putting a different spin on their annual Christmas concert.

The newly designed program is expanding from the Mexican region to include music from Peru, Spain, Guatemala and many others. It’s called “A Latin American Christmas” and features music that was heard from the 15th to the 18th centuries.

The program’s co-directors, Liza Malamut and Salomé Sandoval, said it will also highlight indigenous and African elements composed by Spaniards in the New World.

You can see“A Latin American Christmas,” in Evanston, Little Village and Uptown from Dec. 15-17.
