6 People Killed by Gunfire Over the Holiday Weekend Across Chicago: Police

An 18-year-old man was about six people killed by gunfire over the holiday weekend across Chicago.

According to the Chicago Police Department, 18 people were shot in 16 separate shooting incidents between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Monday.

A 29-year-old man was fatally shot at around 8:30 p.m. Friday in the 8400 Block of South Vincennes Avenue. Police said he’d been in an verbal altercation with another man, who produced a firearm and shot the victim before fleeing into a nearby residence. A SWAT team searched that home, but the alleged shooter was not located.

An 18-year-old man died after he was dropped off at Mount Sinai Hospital with gunshot wounds to his head and face just after midnight Saturday.

A 28-year-old man was killed in a drive-by shooting at around 7:15 p.m. Saturday in the 1600 block of West 33rd Street. He was on the sidewalk in that area when an unknown vehicle pulled up and someone inside opened fire, striking the victim multiple times. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

A 38-year-old man was fatally shot in the 1500 block of East 67th Street just before 6 p.m. Sunday. Police said he was outside when a man approached and opened fire. The victim was initially hospitalized in critical condition, but later died of his wounds.

A 27-year-old man was killed as he walked in the 8200 block of South South Shore Drive at around 1:30 a.m. Monday. While he was outside, a vehicle approached and an occupant fired shots, striking the victim in the chest. He was pronounced dead on scene.

A 33-year-old woman was shot and killed by a man after officers responded to a domestic disturbance at a commercial business in the 4800 South Ashland Avenue just after 3:30 p.m. Monday. When officers arrived, a 31-year-old man produced a firearm and fired shots towards the woman, striking her in the head and chest.

Officers arrested the man and the woman was rushed to a local hospital, where she died.
