Chicago officials expect the Democratic National Convention will be a tourism boost to the city, and it's already drawn one notable out-of-town guest.

Stephen Colbert, host of CBS's "Late Show," announced Wednesday night he'll be broadcasting the program live from Chicago during the convention, Aug. 19-22.

"It should be a fun time. Historically all the Democratic conventions in Chicago have gone super smooth," Colbert said, as an image from the infamously violent 1968 convention popped up on screen.

Colbert spent 11 years in Chicago, performing at Second City.

"It's also where this South Carolina boy got an education in winter," he said during Wednesday's telecast. "Did you know that tears can freeze?"

"Late Show" will broadcast from the historic Auditorium Theatre. Ticket information is not yet available.
