Chaz Ebert Encourages Universal Love, Vulnerability in New Book ‘It’s Time to Give a FECK’

Chaz Ebert says it’s time to give a FECK.

That’s FECK, not, you know, something crass. This tongue-in-cheek acronym was coined by Ebert in her new book: “It’s Time to Give a FECK: Elevating Humanity Through Forgiveness, Empathy, Compassion, and Kindness.”

Through personal anecdotes and stories of awe-inspiring individuals, Ebert’s authorial debut makes a case for universal love and vulnerability.

The book breaks down how to lead a life influenced by each principle, emphasizing that these virtues are things that require constant practice. Ebert invites readers into these practices at the end of each section with journaling prompts.

Ebert said she started writing the book after pandemic restrictions were lifted and she noticed how anxious people had become around others.

“People were fearful, they were isolated, they were lonely and didn’t know how to connect,” Ebert said. “I wanted to have a book to help us connect again.”

The Chicago native’s mission to make the world a better place has been an ongoing venture that started alongside her late husband, acclaimed movie critic Roger Ebert.

“Our life’s mission was to put you in the shoes of another,” Chaz Ebert said.

“It’s Time to Give a FECK” comes out May 7. Chaz Ebert will appear at Anderson’s Bookshop in Naperville at 7 p.m. Thursday.
