“COVID-19 is something that’s new to all of us, and there’s just a lot of uncertainty,” Prince said. “If nothing else, it certainly created an opportunity, believe it or not, to start to engage and just have conversations about what life looks like post-COVID.”
Gary has seen more than 400 reported cases of COVID-19 as of Thursday, with 15 deaths. That’s out of a total population near 75,000 people.
Like the rest of Indiana, businesses in Gary have been shut down since late March to slow the spread of the virus. But that could begin to change Friday, as Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb plans to announce modifications to the state’s stay-at-home order.
Prince says he’ll take a cautious approach when looking at how and when things should reopen in Gary.
“We just want to make sure we do what’s in the best interest of not only our employees but the residents as well,” Prince said.
