CPS Closure Timeline

As the May 31 deadline for the Chicago Board of Education to approve Chicago Public Schools' closures approaches, CPS is working with police to expand its Safe Passage program. The program works with third-party "community watchers" to stay along routes to about 40 schools now, and will expand to all receiving schools next year. Parents will begin to see those new routes in the coming weeks, according to CPS, and training will begin for new watchers this summer. View our interactive timeline for more on the steps leading up to the CPS final closure list, and what parents should expect next.
