Web Extra: Giraffe Born at Brookfield Zoo

Brookfield Zoo is standing tall today after the debut of the 59th baby giraffe born on its grounds. At 5-foot-9 and 173 pounds, the calf was born 11 days ago to first-time mom Jasiri, and dad Hasani. He joins four other giraffes, including his half-brother Dave. The total number of giraffes worldwide has dwindled significantly in the past decade because of habitat loss and illegal hunting. Since January, Brookfield Zoo has also welcomed the births of two sloth bear cubs, a klipspringer, two antelopes, and an Angolan colobus monkey.
