Conflict in the Middle East Escalates

The hostilities between Israel and Hamas began 10 days ago, ostensibly as a result of the kidnapping and murder of three Israeli teenagers in the West Bank followed by the alleged retaliation capture and killing of a Palestinian teenager. Rocket fire has been exchanged by both sides with heavy civilian casualties reported in the Gaza Strip.

Israeli tanks are said to have crossed into Gaza in an operation that an Israeli military spokesman said is open-ended. We discuss the latest conflict with Roey Gilad, Consul General of Israel to the Midwest, and Ghada Talhami, professor of politics at Lake Forest College. Talhami was born in Jordan to Palestinian parents.
