Rabbi Rethinks Theology

Herman Schaalman fled Nazi Germany in 1935. After that experience, he dedicated his life to serving others as a rabbi and led the Emanuel Congregation in Chicago's Edgewater community for 32 years until 1988. He studied and taught religion. And now, as he’s entering his 99th year of life, he’s questioning everything he once held true. We’ll talk with Rabbi Schaalman about his journey from Nazi Germany to his religious evolution about the existence of God.

Watch Rabbi Schaalman talk about religion and his experiences in Nazi Germany in Thirty Good Minutesproduced by the Chicago Sunday Evening Club, that aired on WTTW in 2011.
