It’s “last call” for people interested in registering for Openlands’ TreeKeepers summer session, the certified training program for tree stewards.

The virtual course is set to run Tuesday and Thursday evenings, Aug. 4 to Sept. 1. Click here to register ASAP for the final remaining slots. The course is only held three times a year. If you miss out on the summer session, you can sign up for information about future opportunities.

Topics covered in the sessions include tree biology, pruning, pests and working with volunteers.

Openlands started the program in 1991 and has since certified 2,000 TreeKeepers, who play an important role in conserving, protecting and advocating for the Chicago region’s trees.

After completing the course, TreeKeepers are active in their communities, hosting volunteer work days and plantings, adopting city trees and maintaining parks.
