An ugly loss for the Bears in their primetime Monday night matchup with the Rams as the offense mustered just three points. The Bears lone touchdown came from the defense.

With an anemic offense and an overworked defense, has the Bears’ luck run out as Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints come to town Sunday on the back of a three-game winning streak?

Former Bears offensive lineman James “Big Cat” Williams has three key takes on the game against the Saints.

1. Offensively, the we’re not going to get a new play caller, so coach Matt Nagy’s challenge is going to be seeing what he can he to help keep quarterback Nick Foles upright against the Saints. Left guard James Daniels is out and center Cody Whitehair is listed as day-to-day with a calf injury. Monday night we saw from the Rams what a lot of people have said, including myself, that the Bears should have been running with benched quarterback Mitch Trubisky. Foles running the offense and not being as mobile as Trubisky is really not much of an option now. The offensive line is in shambles. The Bears’ best weapon on offense, Allen Robinson, is in concussion protocol and Foles looked like he was seeing ghosts Monday night. Coach Nagy is going to need to come up with some things that confuse the Saints in order to put points on the board.

2. We need to see more of the Bears 2020 first draft pick, 43rd overall, tight end Cole Kmet. We saw Demetrius Harris miss a big block at the end of the third quarter on the fourth-and-one toss play to (Cordarelle) Patterson. Run blocking was one of the things they liked about Kmet coming out of the draft. He was able to pull in a nice 38-yard gain on a sideline catch followed up by another short catch of seven yards, but then we didn’t see another ball thrown his way. We need to see more of him.

3. The Bears have to find someone who is willing to return punts. Get Ted Ginn Jr. out and let’s give Anthony Miller or maybe Darnell Mooney a chance. Catching punts is not as easy as it may seem, but with an offense that is struggling to move the ball the way the Bears are, you need all the extra yards you can get and that’s a place where you can find them.
