Five people were killed and more than two dozen others were wounded in shootings across Chicago over the weekend.

Thirty-two people were shot in 24 separate shooting incidents between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Sunday night, according to the Chicago Police Department.

A man was fatally shot Saturday afternoon near a home in the 3600 block of West Grenshaw Street. He was standing near the back of the residence just before 1:30 p.m.when he was shot in the back. Police said the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 40-year-old man was killed and two others were wounded just before 9 p.m. Sunday night as they sat on the porch of a home in the 10300 South Calhoun Avenue. According to police, several unknown offenders wearing all dark clothing approached and began firing shots at the victims. The 40-year-old man was struck in the buttocks and later died at the University of Chicago Medical Center. A 26-year-old woman was shot in the arm and a third victim was struck in the leg. Both were hospitalized in good condition.

Minutes later in the 1600 block of South Washtenaw Avenue, two men were shot in a drive-by shooting. The men were on a porch outside a home in that area when someone inside a black sedan began firing shots. One man was shot in the back and was hospitalized in critical condition. A 67-year-old man was also shot and was pronounced dead on scene.

A 26-year-old man was shot 11 times Sunday night in the 100 block of North Kenton Avenue. He was walking southbound in that area at around 10 p.m. when an unknown number of offenders exited a black sedan and began firing. The victim was hospitalized in critical condition, but later died.

One man was killed and another was wounded in a shooting Sunday following an altercation in the 3900 block of West 26th Street. Police said a group of men got into a fight just after 11 p.m. when one person pulled out a gun and opened fire. A 29-year-old man was struck in the chest and killed, and a 20-year-old was shot in the leg. He was hospitalized in good condition.

After midnight, a 28-year-old man was fatally shot in the 3400 block of West Catalpa Avenue, and a 3-year-old girl was wounded after two men began firing into a home in the 9800 block of South Throop Street. She was hospitalized in good condition.

A Chicago police officer was also shot and wounded Sunday afternoon during a traffic stop in the Englewood neighborhood. An offender was shot as well during the exchange of gunfire around 2 p.m. in the 6900 block of South Sangamon Street, according to Police Superintendent David Brown.

Brown said hundreds of officers gathered Monday morning at the University of Chicago Medical Center to greet that officer as she was released. Thus far on the year, 25 Chicago police officers have been shot at, and five of those officers have actually been struck.
