1. Experience

The Black Alphabet Film Festival returns for its ninth year to continue promoting the Black LGBTQ+ experience, diverse stories and create opportunities for filmmakers to have discussions around their experiences. The festival features films such as “I Identify as Me,” “Nana’s Boys,” “Body Language,” “The Baldwin Archives,” “J’Ouvert,” “Phea,” “My Abortion Saved My Life” and many more.

2. Showcase

The First Nations Film and Video Festival is back in Chicago, showcasing the work of Native American directors of all skill levels, promoting Native American first-voice and self-representation in media.

Details: 6 - 8 p.m. Friday, 1 - 9 p.m. Saturday, 2 - 9 p.m. Sunday at various locations in Chicago. Free.

This year “Reivsion” is the theme of the annual Lit & Luz Festival, sparking in-person and livestreamed workshops, speeches and conversations highlighting the culture of the United States and Mexico. The festival is an annual event that allows Mexican writers and artists to take the spotlight and engage in array of free bilingual events like readings, conversations and film screenings.

Details: 1:30 - 7:30 p.m. Friday and noon - 9 p.m. Saturday at various locations throughout Chicago. Free.

4. Speed

Hot chocolate obsessed? Avid runner? Well, there’s a special reward if you join Grant Park’s Hot Chocolate Run this Saturday. Participants will have access to all the chocolate treats they want post-race, including a race-themed hoodie and a medal that looks like a cup of hot chocolate. 

Details: 7:30 a.m. start time on Saturday at Grant Park, 301 S Columbus Dr. $54 for 5K, $64 for 10K, $74 for 15K, $54 for 2-mile walk / MAP

5. Create

Emerging, talented young artists of Yollocalli Arts Reach join the National Museum of Mexican Art for the Yollocalli Fall Art Market, where artists will be selling their own stickers, buttons, zines, clothes, jewlery, candles and more.
