Developers Work to Sell Chicago Bears on Plans for Improved Soldier Field

The Chicago Bears closed out this year’s season with a record-breaking 10-game losing streak.

The next couple of months should reveal a lot about the future of the team. Not only do the Bears have the first pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, they also are expected to make a decision on a potential new stadium in Arlington Heights.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot and a prominent developer are trying to sell the team on some dazzling new changes to Soldier Field in a Hail Mary attempt to keep the team in Chicago.

On the same day the team ended its season with a loss to the Minnesota Vikings, developer Bob Dunn released details of a reimagined Soldier Field, with a glass dome being the most eye-catching feature.

A six-minute video filled with glitzy graphics shows how the iconic lakefront stadium could be radically transformed.

Bob Dunn, president of Landmark Development, is spearheading the effort. He’s developed stadiums across the country, including Green Bay’s iconic Lambeau Field.

He’s also the developer behind the multi-billion dollar One Central project, which aims to transform the South Loop land around Soldier Field into a transit hub with a new entertainment and residential district.

The Bears might not be the only obstacle to the planned changes. Monday evening, Friends of the Parks released a statement saying the group was reviewing the plans only as the were unveiled to the public and threatening opposition and potential legal action should they include “commercial real-estate structures on Chicago's protected lakefront parkland.”
