8 People Fatally Shot Over Weekend in Chicago: Police

A 17-year-old boy was among at least eight people who were killed by gunfire over the weekend across Chicago.

According to Chicago Police Department data, 26 people were shot in 23 separate incidents between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Sunday.

The first homicide of the weekend occurred at around 7:30 p.m. Friday in the 5200 block of South Halsted Street, where a 61-year-old man and 16-year-old boy were each shot. The man was struck in the head and killed, while the boy was hospitalized in good condition.

About an hour later, a 30-year-old man was fatally shot in the 6700 block of South May Street. According to police, he was on the sidewalk in that area when five unknown men approached and began shooting, striking the victim in his abdomen. He later died at a local hospital.

Another 30-year-old man was killed inside an apartment building in the 2700 block of South State Street. He was in the lobby of that building at around 2:30 a.m. Saturday when he got into an argument with an unknown male who produced a handgun and fired shots. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the left side of the torso and died.

Two teen boys, ages 16 and 17, were shot by an unknown person just before 6 a.m. Saturday in the 6400 block of South King Drive. The older boy was shot in the chest and later died at a local hospital. The 16-year-old was shot in his right arm and was hospitalized in good condition.

A man in his 30s was killed while inside a residence in the 8800 block of South Princeton Avenue just before 9 p.m. Saturday. Police said he was in a basement at the home during a gathering when someone opened fire, striking him multiple times in the head and body.

A 25-year-old man died after he walked into a local hospital with a gunshot wound at around 11 p.m. Saturday. It was not immediately clear where that shooting had occurred.

A man was found dead of a gunshot wound inside a home in the 7900 block of South Marquette Avenue just before 5 p.m. Sunday. Police said the man’s age was not yet known.

A 38-year-old man was killed in a drive-by shooting just before 8 p.m. Sunday in the 12300 block of South Union Avenue. He was walking on the sidewalk in that area when someone inside a black vehicle fired shots, striking him multiple times.

A 53-year-old man was also stabbed to death Sunday in the 5100 block of West Concord Place. He was found in a residential hallway at that location at around 7:30 p.m. after he’d been stabbed multiple times. He died of his injuries at a local hospital.
