4 Teens Among 7 People Killed by Gunfire Over Weekend in Chicago: Police

Four teens were killed in separate shootings across the weekend in Chicago, including a 14-year-old boy who was shot in Calumet Heights and a 17-year-old girl who died in Austin.

According to Chicago Police Department data, seven people were killed over the weekend between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Sunday. During that time 40 people were shot in total, in 33 separate incidents.

The victims included 14-year-old Rajon Harshaw, 17-year-old Ashuntice Wilburn, and 16-year-old Khaaliq Williams, who each died by gunfire, according to Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office records.

Williams was on a sidewalk in the 4400 block of South Lavergne Avenue just before 8 p.m. Friday when he was shot multiple times. He was initially hospitalized in critical condition, but later died.

Wilburn and a 16-year-old boy were in a park in the 5700 block of West Bloomingdale Avenue at around 4 p.m. Saturday when they were both shot by an unknown person. Police said Wilburn was struck once and died at a local hospital. The 16-year-old was hospitalized in good condition with a gunshot wound to his leg.

Harshaw was shot at around 8:15 p.m. Saturday while in the 8700 block of South Cregier Avenue. An unknown person opened fire, striking him in the head and chest. He was rushed to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition, but later died of his injuries.

Police said an 18-year-old man was killed as he rode in a vehicle in the 4300 block of West Maypole Avenue at around 10 p.m. Friday. He was sitting in a passenger inside a car when someone fired shots, striking him in the abdomen, cheek, and head.

A 34-year-old man was fatally shot just after 2 a.m. Saturday in the 8900 block of South Carpenter Street. He was standing outside when someone inside a passing vehicle opened fire and struck him twice. He later died at a local hospital.

A 24-year-old man was killed as he drove in the 800 block of North Orleans Street just after 3:30 a.m. Sunday. Police said he was stopped at a red light when someone inside a white SUV pulled up alongside his vehicle and opened fire. The man was struck multiple times and died.

A man between the ages of 30 and 40 was killed at around 11 p.m. Sunday in the 3500 block of West Congress Parkway. A witness told police the victim had been shot by a man, who then fled the scene on foot.
