Labor Day weekend will once again be filled with the sounds of jazz at the Chicago Jazz Festival, a four-day showcase of all forms of jazz including a lineup of local, national and international artists.

Chicago-based vocalist Tammy McCann opens the evening on Saturday, Sept. 2, with songs from her new album, “Do I Move You?”

“I have been traveling a bit with the record, and it’s always good to be home and show Chicago audiences what I’m doing, what’s going on,” McCann said. “And then also all of the musicians that were on the record are also based in Chicago as well. This particular record is what I’d like to call ‘my marinade.’ It’s a combination of all of the music that influences me, from jazz to blues to gospel. And I think more than anything I’d like for those audiences to get a chance to listen to the music that I do and that I create. I think that it is really connected to family and connected to bringing us out of this emotional sequester that we’ve been in with COVID. I want to move people. I want to make them feel again. And I think that all of the music that’s in this record and going to be in this performance is something that’ll resonate.”

The Chicago Jazz Festival performances will take place at the Chicago Cultural Center and the Jay Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park from Thursday, Aug. 31, through Sunday, Sept. 3. All events are free to attend, and a complete schedule of events is on the festival’s website.
