It’s the oldest rivalry in the NFL and a matchup fans looks forward to all year. The Chicago Bears kick off the season this Sunday by taking on the Green Bay Packers at Soldier Field.

Former Bears tight end Emery Moorehead, a member of the 1985 Super Bowl championship team, joined “Chicago Tonight” to preview the season.

We go four and out with Moorehead.

First: Moorehead’s Stats

Moorehead was born in Evanston in 1956, went to Evanston Township High School and played for the Chicago Bears from 1981 until he retired in 1988. He was originally drafted by the New York Giants in 1977, then went to the Denver Broncos for a year, and then came to Chicago to play for his hometown team under head coach Mike Ditka.

Second: Moorehead’s Personal Life

After his playing career ended, Moorehead was a real estate agent in the suburbs for nearly 30 years and served as board chairman of the North Shore-Barrington Association of Realtors. He is the father of ex-Indianapolis Colts receiver Aaron Moorehead. They are the NFL’s first father and son duo to have both played in and won Super Bowls.

Third: Speaking of Real Estate...

Moorehead thinks the Bears will take their time on deciding whether to build a new stadium and entertainment complex on the former Arlington Heights racetrack property the team closed on in February.

“There are issues concerning the taxes out there and the reassessment,” Moorehead said. “It was a quadrennial year for Arlington Heights, and the taxes went up ... about four to five times what they were paying before. Of course, the Bears set that standard by paying the amount of money they paid so it’ll be interesting to see if they can work with the village and the educators and get that tax thing under control and then they can move forward.”

Would he like to see the Bears stay in Soldier Field?

“I would love for them to come back and reach an agreement with the mayor, ... but they’d need to do a total brand new (facility) like SoFi Stadium,” Moorehead said. “Some of these new ones, they have to upgrade all the way, and they could do that on a brand new piece of property if they develop it. … Soldier Field has a historical status, would be much more difficult to do it there.”

Fourth: On His Super Bowl Teammate Steve McMichael

Moorehead recently visited former Bears teammate Steve McMichael, who is battling ALS. McMichael will be honored by the Bears during the season kickoff game against the Packers on Sunday.

McMichael is one of three “senior” finalists to make the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

“I saw him about a week before the Hall of Fame vote because I was a little concerned ... when he went in the hospital,” Moorehead said. “He came out, he fought it, he beat it. And he looks pretty good. … He’s very excited about it, and we all hope he can hang on to that vote that comes up Super Bowl weekend when the full committee of the Hall of Fame votes. And I believe there’s only been one time in 1996 that the whole committee did not ratify what the Veterans Committee had suggested. So we’re very hopeful that he’ll be in.”
