3 People Killed By Gunfire Over Weekend in Chicago: Police

An 86-year-old man fatally shot in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood Saturday was one of three people killed by gunfire across Chicago over the weekend.

According to Chicago Police Department data, 30 people were shot in 28 separate shooting incidents between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Sunday.

That included an 86-year-old man who has reportedly been identified as Charles Hobson Sr., who was shot and killed at around 10 a.m. Saturday in the 8100 block of South Throop Street. Police said he was outside in that area when he was shot in the left thigh. He was taken to a local hospital where he died of his injuries.

A 40-year-old man was fatally shot Sunday in the 9000 block of South Emerald Avenue. He was standing outside just after 12:30 a.m. when a person approached him on foot and opened fire, striking him in the chest. He died at a local hospital.

A 24-year-old man was killed at around 10:35 a.m. Sunday in the 5500 block of South Union Avenue. He was driving in a vehicle, when two occupants of a separate vehicle began firing shots, striking him multiple times. He was pronounced dead on scene.
