Midway International Airport is set to offer a lounge for the first time next year to all travelers who are willing to buy a membership or day pass.

The Club MDW will be an option available for travelers – regardless of airlines and class of service – looking for a place to work, relax and get food and drink service at the airport, according to a news release from the Chicago Department of Aviation.

“Chicago’s original hometown airport is a tremendous driver for jobs and economic opportunity across the South and West sides,” said Mayor Brandon Johnson in a news release. “I am thrilled about the new jobs and amenities this club will provide for our residents and the traveling public.”

The space will be accessible through the airport lounge membership program Priority Pass. Travelers with a boarding pass can also access the lounge by purchasing a day pass for $50.

The lounge will be located at the intersection of Concourses A and B. The design of the 3,300-square-foot space will draw inspiration from Chicago’s architectural history, featuring high-contrast, monochromatic tones, the news release states.

The only lounge-like space currently in Midway is operated by USO Illinois, and is available for military members and their families. That’s compared to O’Hare International Airport, which has multiple lounges, most of which are operated by individual airlines.

The announcement of the lounge comes as the airport continues to undergo upgrades as part of the Midway Modernization Program. The program, which began in 2017, aims to expand security checkpoints, update terminal garages and redevelop concessions offerings at the airport.

The new lounge is expected to open next fall with construction will begin early next year.
