Chicago Public Schools on Wednesday was forced to halt its high school admissions testing due to “technical issues” with the testing platform.
The district said it paused the administration of the High School Admissions Test for eighth grade CPS students seeking to enroll in a district selective enrollment high school.
“We recognize the stress many students and families experience when it comes to admissions testing,” a district spokesperson said in a statement. “CPS leadership is working with our vendor to ensure their technical issues are resolved and to provide alternative testing dates for students who were impacted by the vendor’s technical issues.”
The test is an hour long, with 30 minutes alloted for a math section, and 30 minutes for a reading section.

It’s unclear what the exact problem with the testing platform is. Wednesday marked the testing day for current CPS students seeking admission in a selective enrollment high school, while non-CPS students are scheduled to take the test as early as this weekend.
CPS said it will provide families and schools with updates as soon as it can, but currently the district does not expect future testing dates to be affected by the technical issues.
