4 People Killed By Gunfire Over Weekend in Chicago: Police

Four people were killed by gunfire across Chicago over the weekend, while more than a dozen others were injured in other shootings.

According to Chicago Police Department data, 21 people were struck by gunfire in 19 separate shooting incidents between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m Sunday.

An unknown man was killed inside a vehicle in the 7800 block of South Jeffery Boulevard. He was inside a vehicle in a nearby alley when he shot just before 11 p.m. Friday. He was pronounced dead on scene.

A 23-year-old man was fatally shot in the 3400 block of South 24th Street at around 4:45 p.m. Saturday. He was standing near the sidewalk in that area when he was struck by a bullet in the head. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Officers responding to a report of shots fired at around 1 a.m. Sunday in the 1900 block of South Paulina Street found a 21-year-old man with gunshot wounds to his neck and body. He was hospitalized in critical condition, but died a short time later. Witnesses at the scene told police they’d seen an SUV speeding from the area right after the shooting.

Officers on patrol in the 700 block of South Loomis Street saw an unresponsive 42-year-old man sitting in a vehicle at around 2:45 a.m. Sunday. He later died at a local hospital. According to police, a witness saw four males running from the SUV after they fired shots. No one was in custody as of Monday morning.

A 15-year-old boy was also shot at around 10 p.m. Saturday in the 2300 block of West Cullerton Street. He was hospitalized in good condition, while police noted he was “very uncooperative” with officers about the incident.
