According to Chicago police, two adult men were attempting to walk across the 800 block of North Lake Shore Drive just before 5:30 a.m. The pair were not in a crosswalk, police said, and one of the men was struck by a BMW X-3 that was heading southbound.

He was transported to Northwestern Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The second pedestrian was not injured.

The 63-year-old male driver remained on scene after the crash. He was also uninjured, but was taken to Northwestern Hospital for panic symptoms.

According to police, the southbound lanes of Lake Shore Drive were closed at Chestnut Street Tuesday morning. Those lanes were reopened shortly after 9 a.m., according to Chicago's Office of Emergency Management & Communications.
