Trick or treating came early this week for animals at Brookfield Zoo.
Staff served up pumpkins as enrichment to several of the zoo’s residents, including Banana, a 4-year-old pygmy hippopotamus, who quickly turned her gourd into pulp.
Wondering how a polar bear might react to a jack-o’-lantern? Find out this weekend when caretakers pass out more pumpkins during Brookfield’s “Boo! at the Zoo” event.
Swing by Saturday at 10:30 a.m. to see Axhi, a brown bear, and Hudson, one of the zoo’s polar bears, receive their treats. Or visit Sunday, same time, when the western lowland gorillas get in on the fun.
