Hungry Hungry Hippo Enjoys Halloween Treats at Brookfield Zoo

Trick or treating came early this week for animals at Brookfield Zoo.

Staff served up pumpkins as enrichment to several of the zoo’s residents, including Banana, a 4-year-old pygmy hippopotamus, who quickly turned her gourd into pulp.

Wondering how a polar bear might react to a jack-o’-lantern? Find out this weekend when caretakers pass out more pumpkins during Brookfield’s “Boo! at the Zoo” event.

Swing by Saturday at 10:30 a.m. to see Axhi, a brown bear, and Hudson, one of the zoo’s polar bears, receive their treats. Or visit Sunday, same time, when the western lowland gorillas get in on the fun.
