New Report Raises Questions Over CPD’s Approach to Missing Persons Cases

Black people comprise about two-thirds of all reported missing persons cases in Chicago over the past two decades.

According to a new investigative series by City Bureau and the Invisible Institute on the disappearance of Black women and girls, the vast majority of those missing persons are Black girls and women between the ages of 10 and 20.

The two-year investigation called “Missing in Chicago” raises many questions for the Chicago Police Department over its approach to missing persons cases with family members saying the response from police is often inadequate and fails families.

The report authors, Trina Reynolds-Tyler of the Invisible Institute and Sarah Conway from City Bureau, joined “Chicago Tonight: Black Voices” to talk about their investigation.
