Henry Kissinger, the former secretary of state who wielded great influence under two presidents, died Wednesday at age 100.

Kissinger oversaw U.S. foreign policy under Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford, and remained a powerful figure in the decades that followed as he advised both Democrats and Republicans. He was a central figure as the U.S. withdrew from Vietnam and later broke down barriers with China.

After leaving office, he was greatly criticized for his policies in Cambodia with some blaming his actions for contributing to the rise of the Khmer Rouge.

Kissinger appeared on “Chicago Tonight” three times where he discussed a range of foreign policy issues of the day.

On April 21, 1994, he joined John Callaway for a discussion that included Bosnia, China and South Africa.

Then on March 25, 1999, Kissinger again spoke to Callaway after the publication of Kissinger’s book “Years of Renewal” for a discussion on U.S. foreign policy. That appearance coincided with the start of NATO military action against Serbian installations in what was then Yugoslavia.

His most recent appearance came on June 19, 2001, again for a discussion on one of his books, “Does America Need a Foreign Policy?” This time, host Phil Ponce spoke with Kissinger about the situation in Palestine and Israel at the time, missile defense in Russia and the growth of China.
