12-Year-Old Among 2 Girls Charged in String of Chicago Retail Thefts

A 12-year-old girl is among two juveniles facing felony charges in connection with numerous North Side retail thefts.

Chicago police on Friday announced criminal charges against two girls, ages 12 and 17, after they allegedly stole thousands of dollars worth of merchandise from a half dozen different stores over the past few weeks and months.

The names of both girls have been withheld because they are juveniles.

The 12-year-old faces eight counts of felony retail theft and four additional misdemeanor retail theft counts. The 17-year-old was charged with seven felony retail theft counts, four misdemeanor counts and one count of robbery.

According to police, the girls were arrested Thursday in the 4500 block of North Broadway, just a block away from a store they allegedly hit three separate times since Monday.

The stores the girls allegedly stole items from were located at:

  • 4400 block of North Broadway — Feb. 5, 7 and 8
  • 3200 block of North Clark Street — Nov. 15, 2023, Jan. 10 and Jan. 23
  • 600 block of North LaSalle Street — Jan. 26 and Feb. 2
  • 500 block of West Webster Avenue — Jan 26
  • 3300 block of North Ashland Avenue — Jan. 24
  • 1600 block of West Division Street — Jan. 10

Police said the 12-year-old girl was also charged in connection with a Jan. 21 theft at a business in the 1100 block of West Jackson, while the 17-year-old girl was charged with a Jan. 18 robbery in the 1600 block of West Division.
