Snow
Is snow shoveling a good form of exercise ?
Snow Shoveling
Shoveling is good exercise, however, too many things can go wrong if your posture is wrong. Some people forget to breathe when shoveling. Others try to lift too much snow, or throw the snow too far. - AWB
Heart rate
I wear a chest band and a wrist monitor to measure my heart rate during exercise. My understanding is that, once I finish exercising, it is good if my heart rate declines by at least 20 (such as from 145 to 125 or lower). Does the amount of this decline measure the health of my heart and arteries?
heridity and heart disease
I've adopted a healthy heart living lifestyle and have outlived (now by 15 years) both my father and brother who died of heart disease. Is it true that the heredity factor is far outweighed by my changing lifestyle?
Carbs are the enemy
Please, if you're at all worried about your heart health, you owe it to yourself to consider the idea that current beliefs about heart disease were based on poor science back in the 50s, and that it's too many refined carbs and sugar that are ruining people's health (heart disease, diabetes, obesity). At least consider something like the Atkins Diet, the Paleo Diet, or the work of Dr. Mike Eades and Jeff Volek. They're leaders in the idea that fat/cholesterol are benign/harmless when you are careful with the amount of carbs/sugar you eat. You won't regret it.
