Oh Deer

This morning a deer was spotted in the WTTW/WFMT parking lot.

While Jeanne Nolan said deer are possible pests her clients have to deal with, I’ll admit I didn’t think I’d see one in the city.

I figured those clients she referred to must live in the suburbs. As a suburbanite myself, I am accustomed to seeing deer in yards, parking lots, and along busy streets.

That said I didn’t think I’d see a deer in the city, let alone in the parking lot where I work. Fortunately, Jay Smith, who saw the deer and snapped a few photos, said the deer did not stop by and check out our garden.

Hopefully, the deer will keep its distance and stay away from the garden, which is more rabbit-proof than deer-proof due to the height of the fence. A little more than a month after planting, the crops are thriving, and some are growing through the rabbit-proof fencing as well as above it.
