There’s a big difference between how much money is loaned to home buyers in Chicago neighborhoods with a majority of White residents versus neighborhoods with a majority of Black or Brown residents.

Between 2012 and 2018, more than two-thirds of home mortgage lending went to primarily White neighborhoods in the city versus areas with predominantly Black and Brown populations, according to a recent report by City Bureau and WBEZ.

“168,859 loans totaling $57.4 billion for residential properties ranging from condominiums and single-family homes to large apartment complexes” issued by banks and “non-bank” mortgage companies, according to the article.
