After one of the driest springs on record, the Chicago area is making up for lost precipitation in June. The National Weather Service is forecasting multiple rounds of thunderstorms to roll through the region this weekend, with the brunt on Saturday.

Expect waves of torrential, soaking rains, with totals expected to hit upward of 6 inches in some areas by Sunday and likely at least 3 inches in most parts of northeast Illinois.

Flash floods are a concern with the downpours, especially south of I-80, the weather service said. Do not attempt to drive through a flooded roadway.

The weather service is also warning boaters of hazardous conditions, particularly for small craft, on Lake Michigan through Sunday.
