“We are heartbroken by the act of violence in Highland Park on Monday,” a spokesperson for the garden said. “In times of crisis, nature can be healing.”

Entry to the garden will be free 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., with no reservations required, Wednesday through Sunday.

In the aftermath of Monday’s shooting during Highland Park's Fourth of July parade, the garden was closed to the public while authorities conducted a manhunt for the suspected shooter.

While other venues, including nearby Ravinia, remain shuttered, the garden opted to re-open its doors to serve as a place of respite.

Community members expressed their gratitude on social media, thanking the garden for “providing a refuge and hope in the days ahead.”
