Timed to coincide with Women’s Equality Day, established in the U.S. as Aug. 26 to commemorate women’s suffrage, a group of Chicago’s female chefs and restaurateurs are kicking off Women’s Restaurant Week, Aug. 26-31.

The idea grew out of a Zoom call among a number of women who work as Chicago-area chefs, said Sarah Stegner of Prairie Grass Cafe.

“It was smart to band together to face the COVID-19 challenges, learn from each other and encourage customers to support our women-owned restaurants,” Stegner said in a statement.
